Dear Users,

On Saturday the 20th June 2009 at 12:00 AM CEST, SolidIRC will change the whole IRC Software Package. This means we will get a new IRCd and new Services. This change will unfortunately result in a total loss of all services data. In other words: nicknames and channels are no longer registered. I talked to the Developers of the Services to find a way to convert the data from the old Services Program to the new one. I also tried to convert the data by hand. Nothing worked. So we have to go this way and see how painful it is.

Many of you asking why we have to change the software and not use the old one. The explaination is simple. We have used UnrealIRCd for 6 years now. It's a great program, but the project is dying. The coders stopped working on the program, and it's not guaranteed that there will be bugfixes in future. So we've searched for a new ircd for some months and now finally choosed InspIRCd. InspIRCd is a lightweight IRCd wich can handle very much users on one Server. And it contains more Features than UnrealIRCd. You will find new Channel and Usermodes and some new Commands.

But the decision to use InspIRCd has revealed a new problem: the old Services Package is not working with the new IRCd. But the advantages of the IRCd are so big that the missing services support is no reason to choose another one. We have decided to use the Anope Services in future and to try to convert the Data. Today we got the confirmation that this conversion isn't possible. So we decided to switch quickly to the new software and give you the best support possible to help you getting back to normal operation. Every channelowner can PM Phantomal to get instructions how to register the Channel for the new installation. (Today im here till 00:00 CEST and tomorow im here at 08:00 AM CEST) Please notice that this service only is for channelowner, normal users can register their nicks tomorow when the system is back online.

As I wrote above, the new ircd and the new services are including some new functions and missing a few old ones. This results in a problem for Statserv. So I decided to reset Statserv tomorow. So we will start with clean Services and Stats.

I'm really sorry for all the problems this change will cause, and I apologize for every trouble you will have, but I hope you now understand why we have to do this.

Greetings,

Phantomal

Hey Folks,

a new Server joined SolidIRC a few Days ago. This Server is sponsored by our well known Services Admin phrozen77 and is called DEATHSTAR. After some days of testing i added the server to our round robin today, so you now have 3 servers wich are reachable with the "irc.solidirc.com" address.

Thank you phrozen77 :-)

Hello,

i finally added the Webchat to our Website. At this time you will autojoin the "#solidirc" channel, but you can use it for every channel on our Network. We have tested the Webchat to work in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari. You will need a Java (TM) virtual Machine to use it.

I plan to improve the functionality in future, so if you have any Problems or Ideas feel free to write me a Mail or post it on our Message Boards.

Greetings,

Phantomal

Dear Users,

SolidIRC will undergo a larger maintenance on next Saturday. We will update nearly every IRC related Softwarepackage. This will result in some netsplits and a short downtime of our services. I will combine the SolidIRC software maintenance with a small server maintenance on DS9.

Greetings,

Phantomal

Dear Users,

SolidIRC just launched a Quote Database. You're all invited to post your quotes there. The System is moderated and we will review the Quotes to keep the Site clean. You can reach the System with the shiny new link in our top menubar (QUOTE DATABASE) or you can use the URL: http://qdb.solidirc.com.

Happy Quoting ;)

Greetings,

Phantomal
